Important information about Sharp's Medicare Advantage Plan
Updated: Oct 13

You may have seen a notice put out by Sharp announcing the end of Individual Medicare Advantage plans. This change will not affect SDPEBA’s Sharp Direct Advantage plan as it is a group plan.
We understand that this announcement may have caused some confusion, but rest assured that all of SDPEBA’s pre-existing health care plans will remain available during the 2027 Open Enrollment season and that this decision will have no direct impact on any of the Sharp plans offered to City employees and Retirees.
If you have any questions about this, please email Support@SDPEBA.org and we will do our best to answer any questions you may have.

Individuals who have signed up for the individual Medicare option directly through Sharp for an individual plan. If you signed up through RHSC or SDPEBA, you will not be affected.
How do I know if I'm on the Individual Plan or the SDPEBA Group Plan?
If you pay Sharp directly, you are enrolled in the individual plan. You can also check by logging into your RHSC account found here https://sdretireehealth.com, and check your enrolled benefits. If Sharp appears here, that means you are enrolled in the Group Plan. You could also call RHSC at 855-380-5898 or email info@SDRetireeHealth.com.
Do I need to do anything?
Only if you had an individual plan through Sharp. Please refer to communications from Sharp about end of coverage.
Other Medicare Advantage plans are available through RHSC and SDPEBA, the enrollment period is from October 27th – November 24th. To enroll visit https://sdretireehealth.com during the enrollment period and click “enrollment.” You can also enroll by calling them at 855-380-5898.
Will my rates go up because of this change?
No. Rates negotiations have already taken place.
I’m on an individual plan, what happens next?
Play close attention to communication from Sharp for more information about when your coverage ends and any options they may provide. You can ensure there is no lapse in coverage by enrolling in another Medicare plan.
Will there be any changes to my network or doctor?
No. As of right now, Sharp’s network remains the same. This goes for all of SDPEBA’s offerings.
