Spring Staycation Ideas
One of our most popular non-insurance related articles is this article on a “San Diego Staycation.” The information in it is still great, but we figured we should compile another list of great local places to consider if you’re looking for something to do in San Diego County.
Local Hotel Getaway
Have you ever visited Hilcrest, La Jolla, or Del Mar and thought it would be fun to live here? There are plenty of amazing neighborhoods in San Diego, a local hotel might be a great way to sample other lifestyles that San Diego has to offer. You can also go the more “touristy” route and stay somewhere like Mission Bay, Coronado, or downtown.
A few nights at a hotel can be expensive, but since you (probably) live in or near San Diego, you don’t have to stress about renting a car or buying a plane ticket. That being said there are definitely cheaper ways to sleep somewhere other than your house in San Diego.
Hiking and Camping
Tents aren’t for everyone. But! There are many amazing local campsites. Some even have cabins! Not sure where to start? Decide if you want desert, forest, or beach vibes. And then from there, you have Vallecito County Park, Dos Picos Park, and then Tijuana River Valley Regional Park.
If you’re just looking for a hike: have you been to Anza-Borrego? This state park is part of the Pacific Crest Trail, meaning there are dozens of well-maintained trails to hike through for any skill level. There are plenty of beautiful sites and a lot of big horned sheep to photograph from a safe distance.
We recommend you do your own research to find out about parking, campsites, and safety before heading out into the wilderness.
A Day Trip
Not to break the fourth wall, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention my hometown of Temecula. With traffic, you can get to Old Town Temecula in about an hour from Downtown San Diego. Old Town is a “Wild West” themed outdoor mall with a lot of historic buildings, delicious restaurants, and yes, wine. Temecula is most famous for wine, and the wineries are around 90 minutes from San Diego.
And if you want to wake up way too early, there’s also Catalina Island. This will be a more expensive trip, as just buying a ferry ticket includes several extra fees, but it is well worth it. There are stunning ocean views, beautiful hiking trails, good food, and really weird museums. On top of all of that, you can see bison there. Who knew!
If you choose to go on any of these trips, travel safe and have fun!
