SDPEBA Vision and Dental Shoutout

You can sign up for SDPEBA’s Dental and Vision

Did you know that you can enroll in Metlife Dental and VSP Vision through SDPEBA? It’s true! Last year we expanded MetLife Dental to all SDPEBA members. We highly recommend checking these plans out if you haven’t already because they both offer great coverage at a great price. Plus, they’re available through payroll deduction!

Below are short breakdowns on each plan.

MetLife Dental

We offer two MetLife Dental plans, an HMO plan and a PPO plan. The plans both cover dental procedures and offer a $0 copay for annual cleanings and exams but differ greatly in how you can use your plan.

The HMO plan has you select a dentist while signing up and has a copay model, meaning all the costs and procedures that are covered are laid out in a “Schedule of Benefits” that you can view by clicking here. This is a long PDF and it might seem overwhelming, but it just means you will know the exact cost of any procedure before you get it.

The PPO plan uses a coinsurance model that breaks coverage down by category. To view the full breakdown click here. Unlike the HMO plan, this plan has a $50 annual deductible and a max benefit of $2250 per person (and a separate $2000 max benefit for orthodontia). This means that you will need to pay $50 before your full coverage kicks in, and that if you hit your max benefit, you won’t get coverage anymore. The benefit of this plan is that you can use it anywhere that’s “in-network”

To see which dentists are in-network for either plan click here and follow the instructions under “MetLife Dental.”

Both of these plans are very useful and cover very different bases. If you’re unsure which plan to get, we can help. Email [email protected] or check out our website http://www.SDPEBA.org for more information about each plan.

VSP Vision

Our VSP plan is a two-pair plan that offers amazing flexibility when it comes to getting glasses or contacts. The plan works on an allowance system meaning you get $170+ to put toward frames or contacts at an in-network retailer (which includes Costco). And then you can do it all over again and get a second pair! That pair can be something specific like sunglasses or computer glasses, or it can be just a backup pair!

This plan gives full coverage on your annual eye exam and also covers you for additional eye care tests. Lens enhancements or advanced lenses also have great coverage, you can find a breakdown by clicking here

We highly recommend this plan to anyone, even people who don’t need/use glasses. This is because an eye exam is an important health test you should be getting every year! On top of that, you can use the plan to get a pair of sunglasses, polarized glasses, or just fashionable frames with a light prescription to keep your eyes healthy.

Important note about enrolling in either of these plans: if you enroll in either of these plans that will not cancel your coverage through the County for a different dental or vision insurance plan. Before enrolling, be sure to cancel any existing coverage through the County during Open Enrollment. These plans are not a part of “Flex Credits,” but are available through payroll deduction.

For more information email [email protected] or check out our website http://www.SDPEBA.org for more information about each plan.

And if you’d like to sign up for either plan, give us a call during Open Enrollment at 888-315-8027.
