Prioritize your Heart Health this Year
Heart disease remains the leading cause of death in America. And while some aspects are out of your control, there are many things you can do to prioritize your heart’s health! We put together a short article with details on heart health, some quick easy tips you can implement, and then some extra info based on insurance plans you might have.
Having poor heart health doesn’t just increase your risk for heart disease, it also makes your life harder. Poor heart health can lead to chronic pain, trouble breathing, fatigue, and swelling. All of these conditions make it harder to sleep, move, and destress. Poor sleep, lack of exercise, and high stress are also some of the worst things you can do for your heart. So, it is a lose-lose situation!
How can you protect your heart health?
- Go for a 15-30 minute walk every day
- Be mindful of what you eat (avoid too much red meat, fatty foods, sugar, and alcohol)
- Maintain a good schedule (getting plenty of sleep and having time to destress)
- Go to the doctor for routine checkups!
Bonus: Do you have Aflac, Sharp, or Best Health?
Certain Aflac plans will pay you for going to the doctor and getting routine blood tests. Sharp’s Best Health program gives you discounted access to gyms and has online coaching to help you come up with a health plan. And for retirees, Sharp Advantage members have access to Silver + Fit, which will give you free fitness gear and free access to certain gyms!
