We recently hosted a MetLife Pet Insurance Webinar and got some great questions from the chat! If you don't see your question answered here, feel free to email [email protected] or watch the webinar!
Can my pet “age out” of the plan, or is it for life?
There are no limits, your pet is covered forever
Is there an age limit?
No, rates may vary based on pet’s age. There is a limit with the family plan, dogs must be under 12 and cats must be under 14 when they sign up.
What if I don’t know the age of my pet?
You will need to get an estimate from a vet.
Is cremation covered for end of life?
Yes
Are vet records needed to sign up?
No medical records are needed to enroll. You will need to include vet records when filing a claim to confirm/detect any pre-existing conditions.
When are pre-existing conditions covered?
We only cover pre-existing conditions if it was covered by a different pet insurance provider. Learn more here.
Are allergies and medications covered?
Yes, they fall under preventative care.
Do I need to use the app to file a claim?
You can also mail claims physically or use the website to file claims. Learn more here.
Can you cancel at any time?
Yes.
If I change to MetLife do I need to cancel my other pet insurance or would you do it?
You will have to cancel through your provider. If you have SDPEBA’s Nationwide, we can help with that.
If you add the standard wellness, what percent is covered?
The standard wellness plan matches the coverage percentage you select when you get your plan. So if you choose the 50% plan, you will only have to pay 50% of the vet bill (after the deductible).
Is teeth cleaning covered?
Yes, under the preventative care add-on.
Are exotic pets covered?
Only in some states (not in California as of now).
Are working dogs covered?
Only if they get sick or injured off the job
How often do rates change?
They are renewed every year and cost can change.
What is the plan’s elimination period?
14 days for illness, accidents immediately
What if I have 4 pets, can I get them all on the family plan?
No, the limit is 3, so you would have to cover the 4th separately.
