Date Night in San Diego: Valentine's Day Ideas

Whether you’re taking your significant other out on a date, looking for a good plan with a friend, or just trying to do some self-care, check out the list below for some tips and local ideas.

Tips on Dinner Reservations

A lot of places are already booked up for Valentine’s at the time of writing this article, so you might have some trouble finding a good spot—but San Diego has a LOT of options when it comes to fine or fine-ish dining. If you can’t find something on the coast or in Little Italy, consider smaller neighborhoods like North Park, Convoy, or somewhere out of town like Temecula or Escondido.

Also, if you can stomach a double date, it’s easier to find tables for groups of 4 or 6 on Valentine’s. It’s not romantic when you’re sharing appetizers with your next-door neighbor, but it can be a good way to secure a table!

(We have an older article with restaurant recommendations if you need them).

Sight Seeing

Since Valentine’s is on a Saturday, you can easily fit in a walk on the beach or a hike on one of San Diego’s many trails. Consider Sunset Cliffs or La Jolla Shores if you’re looking for something beachy (and if you like people watching).

It’s going to be very busy in Balboa Park, but if you haven’t been to the zoo in a while or seen the revamped botanical garden, it’s worth it! Plus, you get to pay for parking now, how romantic!

Activities

San Diego is home to many miniature golf courses, but if you’re looking for something more mature, you can always go to the many art shows in places like Liberty Station, take a pottery class at Wheel and Wine, or go to improv in downtown.

Whatever you choose to do, have fun!
