Changes to your Open Enrollment Schedule

As was recently announced, the City will be changing the “effective” start date for their health plans. This means that the dates for Open Enrollment, benefit calendars, and more will be changed. SDPEBA will be joining the City and moving our benefit period as well.

To put it plainly your plans normally ran from 8/1 to 7/31. Now, your plans will run from January 1st to December 31st.

This change should make managing your benefits much more intuitive and will not affect your plans, your FSA dollars, or the types of benefits offered. The most important thing to note is how this transition affects the open enrollment period that was scheduled to start this month.

SDPEBA and the City will still offer an Open Enrollment period during their usual times. Meaning, if you want to make any changes to your benefits, you can. However, the plans you sign up for during this Summer Open Enrollment will only be active for a shortened plan period.

Essentially, all of your existing plans and new plans that you add during this Summer Open Enrollment period will be in effect from 8/1/2022 until 12/31/2022. The City and SDPEBA will then host an additional Open Enrollment during the Fall. We will give you the official dates once they’re made available. The plans you enroll in during the Fall Open Enrollment will then run from January 1st, 2023 to December 31st, 2023.

You don’t have to worry. You will proceed through this Open Enrollment like usual. You won’t need to contact us and will be automatically reenrolled in all of your existing plans as per usual. We encourage you to review your plans during the Fall Open Enrollment period and to add/change any plans then.

If it’s an SDPEBA plan, call 888-315-8027 during Open Enrollment (4/18-6/30) and we’ll get you set up with your plans.

If it is a City administered plan, check your SAP Enrollment on the City’s site and make changes the same as you would during any other Open Enrollment period.

We’ll be posting more OE content in the coming weeks that will break down everything you need to know. Remember, since we’re having a second OE this year, you’ll be able to make changes if you need to before the next full enrollment plan starts. So, you have more time than usual to make choices about your plans.
